Colour:
Greenock Shiraz 2021 is thick black-purple in colour.
Aroma:
The aroma is super lifted with very delectable classic Greenock Shiraz notes of black plum, Christmas cake, dark chocolate, violets, toasty oak and clove spice all matched perfectly foreshowing a distinguished wine.
Palate:
The full-bodied palate is plump with generous flavours of ripe dark fruits. These rich fruits weave through the entire palate and are gently complimented with apparent but not intrusive oak, adding further dimension. Tannins are natural and finely balanced bringing a robust and slightly chalky structure. This solid wine is completed with a lengthy finish.
Recommended Drinking:
Greenock is a complex, refined and classy Barossa Shiraz that has a long cellaring future.
The single vineyard “Greenock” block of grapes was harvested on March 10th. After picking, the grapes were destemmed into open top fermenters. They were fermented warm with hand pump-overs twice a day for 8-10 days on skins prior to pressing. After pressing off skins the wine was filled to a mix of 30% new and the balance used American and French oak hogsheads. The wine completed primary fermentation and underwent natural malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine was matured in barrel for fourteen months prior to bottling
Vintage 2021 was an exemplary year with fine wines and good yields. Growing season rainfall was marginally below average and temperatures were mild ensuring vine canopies remained healthy. Vintage weather was absolutely perfect throughout, with dry mild-warm days and cool nights ensuring even and steady ripening across all varieties. There is strong colour and flavour across all the reds along with excellent structure and balance whilst the whites are bright, fresh and elegant.
